make history breaking the ice to be first feature winners of the COVID-19 2020 season

For Immediate Release BRS-062120-1

The wait is finally over and it was evident with the exceptional car counts and racing excitement afforded the Bear Ridge Speedway drivers and their supporters. In accordance with the VT state guidelines, the drivers were able to compete, but with the absence of fans. The COVID-19 busters to claim the gold on week 8 the first week of the season at the Ridge were Jason Gray in the Sabil & Sons DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds, Josh Harrington in the DIRTcar Sportsman Coupes, Tyler Trembley in the C.A. Miller Limited Late Models, Kaleb Shepard in the LaValley’s Building Supply Dirt Stockers and Robert “Buddy” Welch in the Peanuts Auto Four Cylinders.
The field was twenty-six strong in the DIRTcar Sabil & Sons Sportsman Modifieds, making for plenty of hot action on the track. Until the regular handicapping can be implemented, the line ups were determined by an invert from the heat race finishes saw the hot guns starting from deep in the pack. Jason Gray was once such driver having to start from all the way back in fifteenth. He would work his way thru traffic to advance fourteen spots to grab the win. Todd Buckwold advanced two positions to take home second with Jordan Fornwalt coming home in the third-place spot. Justin Severence and Robert Tucker completed the top five.
The Wells River Chevrolet DIRTcar Sportsman Coupes also had an impressive car count coming in at nineteen strong. Josh Harrington worked his way from fourth to take the win with Tadd Kingsbury holding on to his outside pole position to claim second. Bob Kilburn would fall from his pole position but was able to hold on to the third-place victory lane spot. Jason Horniak and Brian Chaffee rounded out the top five.
The USAC DMA Midgets are scheduled to make their first appearance of the season at the Ridge this coming Saturday June 27th on JTB Towing and Recovery night.
The C.A. Miller Limited Late Models and LaValley’s Buidling Supply Dirt Stockers were off to a bit of a rocky start with mechanical problems for some and a couple of light weight machines failing post race inspection. When all was said and done Tyler Trembly would be credited with the win over George Osgood and Jordan Martin in the Late Models and Kaleb Shepard, Phil Hayes and Troy Prentice the top three in victory lane for the Dirt Stockers.
In the Peanuts Auto Four Cylinders it was like nothing changed. Buddy Welch worked his way from twelfth to get his first win of the season, with Bobby Bell returning to action coming home in second. Dennis Perry was your final victory lane visitor. Owen Carbee and Garrett Brown finished out the top five.
Bear Ridge Speedway’s 53rd season of dirt car racing continues Saturday, June 27, 2020 sponsored by JTB Towing and Recovery featuring a full card of racing for the 99Rock weekly racing series, with the Sabil & Sons DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds, Wells River Chevrolet DIRTcar Sportsman Coupes, USAC DMA Midgets, and the Peanuts Auto Four Cylinders. The first of the season Mike Estrada State Farm 4/6 Cylinder Enduro Series is on tap as well. The C.A. Miller Inc Limited Late Models and the LaValleys Building Supply Dirt Stockers are off and will return for action on July 4th.
The process will unfortunately have to be the same on June 27th as it was on June 20th as we continue to follow the designated VT state guidelines. We will continue to enforce social distancing and face coverings at all times. All people entering the property will be required to be temperature checked before they can be signed in. Again we are not allowed to have general admission fans. Pit entry fee is $30.00 for 2020 Registered members, and $35.00 for non-members. No one under the age of 10 will be allowed on the property. Please bring proof of age, as we may require you to provide it.
We will again be working under the “arrive, play and leave” mentality. Groups may not gather before or after activities (no tailgating, etc.). Gates to the facility/pits will open at 4:00pm gates will be closed to the facility/pits at 7:00 pm. No entry will be allowed after that time. You will be required to sign in and enter the pits immediately upon arrival, there will be no “tailgating” before the events. Racing will kick into gear at 6:00 pm(ish), based on track conditions. Once the events have concluded for the evening everyone will be required to leave the facility, there will be no “tailgating” after the events. Once you enter the pits you will not be able to leave, (there will be no reentry), if you leave the pits you will be required to leave the property immediately.
We are just as anxious as everyone is to get things back to our “new norm” until then we continue to work diligently within the Vermont State guidelines, to ensure that we are doing everything in our power to keep everyone safe, and sincerely appreciate all of you understanding. We also want to thank those drivers and crews who were able to take advantage of our closed practices. Your efforts to work within the guidelines established are what are allowing us to get to the next step, RACIN!! As we progress, we will keep you updated of any changes. Racing will kick into gear at 6:00 pm(ish), based on track conditions, and as always Visa and MasterCard are accepted.
April May and Butch are now on air with Stephen John for all the updates happening at the Ridge every Friday morning from 6:30 to 7:00 on WYKR.
