It is with profound sadness that we share with everyone the sudden loose of our dear friend and key member of the Bear Ridge Speedway Family.
Robin Durphey your gas & tire lady on race night was unexpectedly taken from us on Wednesday October 5th.
Robin a very young 58 has along with her husband Dave been a permanent fixture of the Ridge, coming up with us from Canaan Fair Speedway 18 years ago, where they helped us on Friday nights on the dirt, and me on Saturday nights on the asphalt while Butch was at the Ridge, before that Dave and I raced together at Claremont Speedway. Our racing relationship spans almost 30 years. Racing was in her blood, and she truly loved getting away from home to spend time at the Ridge.
Dave & Robin just celebrated their 28th wedding anniversary last weekend and they were looking forward to coming up for our 5th Annual Sunday/Funday. Dave said she already had their suitcases half packed.
She loved visiting with the drivers and crews who came and got their gas and fuel from her, and riding with Dave in the wrecker, after she closed up shop.
She was an avid novice photographer, loving to take photos at the track and when she shared her memory card with me, it was obvious she loved her family and grandchildren deeply as there were always plenty of photos of them, I would get to see as I looked for the track photos.
Robin wasn’t afraid to tell you how she felt about something, which Dave said, “she had to be strong like that she put up with me for 28 years.”
Robin didn’t want a funeral, but Dave said she would put up with us getting together to celebrate her life.
We will be holding the celebration on Sunday October 16th from 10:00 to 2:00 at Bear Ridge Speedway. Everyone is welcome, if you wish (not expected) to bring a potluck dinner to share as we share stories of Robin, please feel free to do so.
I hope that she is now hanging out with some of our other dear friends, such as Penny D and John P, and Paul P to name but a few lost to us too early as well and giving them a run for their money.
Robin you were a beautiful person, and you will be deeply missed. May you rest in peace.
