Cooper Hodge gets his first win in the Wells River Chevrolet DIRTcar Sportsman Coupes
Event Fourteen of the 55th consecutive season of racing at the Ridge.

For Immediate Release BRS-08132022-1

The Swenson Insurance Agency feature winners of the 55th consecutive racing season in the Sabil & Sons DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds was Brian Chaffee, Cooper Hodge in the Wells River Chevrolet DIRTcar Sportsman Coupes; USAC DMA Midgets OFF, Ryan Christian in the R&L Auto Towing and Recovery, the LaValley Building Supply Dirt Stocks Garrett Brown; Peanuts Auto LLC Ridge Runners Feature one Jonathan Baker, Feature two Travis Burroughs.
Brian Chaffee moving up from the Sportsman Coupes, dreamed of getting his first win in the Sabil & Sons DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds, but probably not this way. A special award is given out at the annual awards banquet for those drivers who are fortunate enough to grab the checkers three times in one night. The stars need to be aligned just right, as this feat is not a common occurrence. First you must win your heat race (qualifier) which he did. Second you must win the semi feature event, (a special 13 lap race in memory of Buster Kathan, each week a different class getting a chance at), which he did. Then the toughest part comes when you have to hold off the full field of pounding machines at your back and win your main event feature, which he DID! Joining the beaming Chaffee was Jeremy Huntoon with his best finish of the season taking second, and Todd Buckwold in third, both still looking for their first win in the mighty mods, and proving that they are just a couple door knocks away from getting it. Ryan Christian and Matt completed the top five.
It was a decades young and a decades old victory lane in the Wells River Chevrolet DIRTcar Sportsman Coupes with the youngest, still a few years shy of two decades, and the most aged competitor, just a bit over seven decades making it to victory lane. Cooper Hodge starting from the outside pole was able to get the lead and hold off the field of veterans behind him to score his first win of his short career. Coming from deeper in the pack were to veterans both eager for their first win of the season and opportunity to show the young guns how it is done. They would make their way to the second and third place spot in victory lane, conceding their defeat to the young’un, while both proud of him and happy to join him in the coveted top three. Matt Ellsworth is scored in second with the most aged of drivers in the division Bob Shepard getting the third-place spot, his best finish of the year, proving he still can get r done! Tim Hodge and Ali Pushee rounded out the top five.
The USAC DMA Midgets were off and will be at Albany Saratoga on June 12 and will return to the Ridge on August 27th.
Ryan Christian doing double duty in both a Sportsman Modified and a Late Model gets his sixth win of the season in the R & L Auto Towing & Recovery Late Models, his second trip of the night to victory lane. Christian held off Tyler Tremblay for the win who crossed the line in second with Matt Lashua coming home in third the final victory lane spot. Kelly Miller Sr. and Parker Piper rounded out the top five.

If we could have only chalked it up to “Full Moon Mayhem” but the LaValley Building Supply Dirt Stocks seem to be having a tough go of it lately with strong tempers getting the best of some of the drivers creating situations needing track officials refereeing. On track retaliation, cars deliberately stopping and waiting for a competitor to go by under caution so they can make contact, drivers getting out of vehicles on the track and excessive roughness will not be tolerated at the Ridge. This week several drivers will realize the consequences of such actions. This young division shows great promise with a good field of cars and some great drivers, but stupidity of some will only help to shorten its life expectancy as too much money and effort is put into these machines, as in every class, to sustain the continued unsportsman behaviors both on and off the track. This makes it hard for the ones who are still able to come to the track with a smile on their face to have some fun racing, as it inevitably takes away from their moment in the lime light. Despite the mayhem a very happy trio were able to make their way to victory lane as Garrett Brown a rookie in the Dirt Stocks gets his first win of the season beating out veteran Lucas Wheeler and Ed Moodie.
Mike McClay is advanced to fourth with Rob Thurston being scored in fifth.
It is only hoped by all at the Ridge that these drivers are able to figure out what short track racing is supposed to be about before they ruin it for their fellow competitors who do get it.
It is never something that any track official wants to have to do, but at the end of the day each person is responsible for their own actions and must be held accountable if they choose to take a wrong path. It is not always everyone else’s fault. Two wrongs only make a bigger wrong. We don’t like having to be referees but if you force us to, don’t complain about the decision you force us to make.

Jonathan Baker final gets his first win in the first feature of the night for the Peanuts Auto LLC Ridge Runners beating out Matt Lucas and Kevin LaBree for the checkers. Kevin Keene and Cary Hunter rounded out the top five. Lucas unfortunately would fail a post-race inspection moving LaBree to second and Keene to third. Carry Hunter is officially scored in Fourth with Katie Burroughs getting fifth.
Travis Burroughs scores the win in the second feature of the night with Tim Morrill joining him in victory lane in second and Chase LaFoe in third. Logan Martin made it up to fourth one spot short of victory lane with Hayden Bishop rounding out the top five.
