While everything around the track was under water the ¼ mile fastest clay oval track in Vermont, was in excellent shape and indeed fast fast fast on opening night 2019 of the 52nd consecutive season at Bear Ridge Speedway.
It was a wild night for the DIRTcar Sabil & Sons Sportsman Modifieds, the fast and tacky track made for a very level playing field for all the contenders. Lapped traffic late in the event would have a huge play in the outcome of the event. This gave Robert Tucker the opportunity he needed to get by the front of the field for the win with Steve Flint coming in across for second. Billy Lussier gave us a surprise visit and was able to grab third. Derek O’Hearn and Matt Lashua completed the top five.
Bob Kilburn ended 2018 strong was debating on whether he could make it over to the Ridge every week in 2019 in a Wells River Chevrolet DIRTcar Sportsman Coupe and told us depending on how he did his first night would help him decide if he would be a regular. Well as he crossed the line to grab the checkers for his second win of his career and the first of the season, the question was asked, so we will see next week right? The track was just as he liked it and he held off a hard-fought challenge from Brain Chaffee to grab the win, Chaffee was able to hold on for second, with Jason Horniak coming home in third. Todd Hayward and Chris LaForest completed the top five.
The USAC DMA Midgets showed up strong with a field of sixteen. Their 20-lap main event had a fast pace with Dan Douville taking the lead for the first half dozen laps. Joe Krawiec and Manny Dias would both take a turn at the point before Seth Carlson took over on lap twelve which he held onto to take the win. Will Hull and Joe Krawiec crossed the line second and third. Manny Dias and Justin Sheridan rounded out the top five.
In the C.A. Miller Limited Late Models Ryan Christian went for a horrific wild ride in hot laps, taking him out of contention for the night in both this and the Modified class. Kelly Miller would get the win over Tyler Tremblay and Cary Moulton.
The ever-popular Peanuts Auto Four Cylinders hit the track with an impressive field of cars, including a good crop of rookies. The battle for the win was fought among a couple of veteran drivers as Kevin LaForest and Bobby Bell swapped the point on several occasions. When the checkers waved on their 20 lap event LaForest was on top and Bell falling victim to a restart, late in the event, ending up just outside the top four. Buddy Welch and last years track champion Jason Porter were the ones to capitalize on Bells misfortune cross the line in second and third. Bell crosses fourth with Zach Audet close behind crossing in fourth.
The State Farm Mike Estrada 4/6 Cylinder Enduro 1st event scheduled for 5/25/19
