The final event of the VP Racing Fuels DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds Eastern Region is finally in the record books after an edge of your seat forty lap event. Twenty-three legends took to the quarter mile clay oval for their quest to take home the $1,058 first place check and signature Bear trophy. There were six new/non weekly DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds who made their way to the Ridge for the event, one all the way from Canada. Timed hot laps the DIRTcar series format set the field for three heat races with the top three of each heat eligible for a redraw to determine the top nine starting positions. Matt Ellsworth, in his first year in the mods, made the cut and got the draw everyone hopes for and brought the field to the green with Kevin Chaffee, a name not unfamiliar to the Ridge, but who has not been a weekly competitor for several years. Chaffee’s veteran experience and knowledge of the Ridge put him on point quickly and from there he had to hold off the full field and survive three cautions which would bunch the field back up, taking away his lead. Chaffee crossed the line for the checkers almost three quarters of a second before the man seemingly unstoppable Jason Gray who came home second. Matt Lashua joined the pair in third. Max Dolliver and DJ Robinson completed the top five.
Money Money Money it was MADNESS night and lots of Money for the Wells River Chevrolet DIRTcar Sportsman Coupes. A record setting pay out of over $15,000 between lap and purse money was on the line and it would take them 105 laps to get to the end. Three 35 lap features were run throughout the night in the madness format. Michael Danforth brought the first feature to the green by virtue of laps collected. Hew would hold on for the first thirty-five lap feature to take the checkers first. Cody Gregoropoulos came home in second with Cooper Hodge in third. An inverted start from feature one for those still on the track had Rob Williams and Bob Shepard setting the pace to the green. At the end of feature two Jason Grey crossed the line first with Shepard in second and Gregoropoulos third. The final feature was an invert from two, this time with Cody Copeland and Alexis Pushee bringing the field to green with all 18 drivers still in contention. When the checkers waved on feature three Todd Buckwold crossed first under the double sticks with Terry Williams and Ali Pushee in third. The overall top three for the MADNESS victory lane were Jason Grey with a total of 11 points, Cooper Hodge with 13 points and Cody Gregoropoulos with 13 points. Hodge’s third feature finish position of fourth ahead of Gregoropoulos’s finish of eighth puts him in second. Todd Buckwold had 18 points with Jason Horniak at 22.
Travis Shinn gets his third win of the season in the Dad’s 4 By Tool & Supply Sportsman Modifieds Limited narrowing his quest for the championship title to just two points behind Bryan King. King, knowing he needs to stay close to Shinn to maintain his lead takes home second place with Michael Danforth in third. Shawn King and Dustin Towle completed the top five.
The Xtreme DIRTcar DMA Midgets were off and return to action August 2nd
The High-Country Dispensaries Late Models were back in action with Richie Simmons making his third trip to victory lane in as many starts this year in the Late Models. Simmons beat out the current points leader Kelly Miller Sr for the win with Tim Higgins coming home in third. Scott Heath and Sean Lyman rounded out the top five.
Keith Mansur gets another win and joins Mike McClay as the only two repeat winners in the LaValley Building Supply Dirt Stocks. Mansur beat out Tyler Fellows, your current points leader at the line with Dana Carter tight behind the two of them. Matt Pike and Mike McClay rounded out the top five.
It was a carbon copy victory lane finish from last week as it didn’t take long for the drivers starting mid pack to work their way to the front and battle it out for the win in the Woodsville Power Equipment Bobcat of Woodsville Ridge Runners. Kevin LaForest would fall one lap short of making the pass stick over Zach Audet for the win settling for the second-place spot. Ryan Sayers comes home in third, with Terry Flint Jr and Tim Davis completing the top five.
The R.E. Hinkley Granite State Mini Sprints were back home for their Len West Memorial event. With fireworks in the sky at the start of each feature. In the 500cc class fourteen eager drivers hoped to grab the win for this memorial event. After twenty laps Jake Wolf with his dominant performance, takes the checkers with Bentley Robbins and Ella Gisleson second and third. Ed Vickery and Ainsley Davis rounded out the top five. Next up ws the 600cc class with fifteen drivers taking the green at the end of their twenty lap main Jacob Green beat out Teagan Daignault for the win with Adam Flewelling taking third. Todd Davis and Cody Willette completed the top five. The R.E. Hinkley Granite State Mini Sprints will return to action on September 6th their final trip to the Ridge in 2025.
