Donnelly in Sportsman Modifieds, Johnny Scarborough in the Sprint Cars of New England and Cody Gregoropoulos were the Big Winners on Wells River Savin
The 2019 season continued with a big crowd on hand to view some exciting action on an unusually slick track on Wells River Savings Bank Night at Bear Ridge Speedway. Veteran Chris Donnelly came from deep in the pack to win the Sportsman Modified Main Event with Johnny “The Jet” Scarborough making a triumphant return to the Bear Ridge Speedway by winning the Sprint Cars of New England Feature. Rookie Cory Gregoropoulos held off all challengers to take his first career win in the Sportsman Coupes. Other winners were Ryan Christian in the Late Models, Bobby Bell in the 4-Cylinders and Paul Hodge in the Enduro.
The DIRTcar Sabil & Sons Sportsman Modified Feature saw Stephen Lary take the lead early with Mike Dunn running second. Lary held the lead through a series of cautions and kept repelling the advances of Dunn, who tried both high and low for the lead. While the action was hot and heavy up front Chris Donnelly was slicing through the pack from his 15th starting spot, arrived in the fourth position on lap nineteen. From there it didn’t take him long to take the lead from Lary on lap twenty-two and pull away from the field. Jason Gray and Tanner Siemons were also on the move but with no more cautions they couldn’t catch the high flying Donnelly. At the checkers it was Chris Donnelly with the win, Jason Gray was second with Tanner Siemons third. Richie Simmons and Wayne Stearns completed the top five.
Rookie Cody Gregoropoulos led from the drop of the green to the Checkers in The Wells River Chevrolet DIRTcar Sportsman Coupes Caution free Feature. Gregoropoulous had veteran Josh Harrington on his bumper for the entire 30 lap Feature waiting for Gregoropoulous to make the mistake that never happened. Tanner Siemons and Tad Kingsbury battled for third with Siemons taking the spot before the halfway point of the event. At the finish it was the rookie Cody Gregoropoulous with his first career win. Josh Harrington was second with Tanner Siemons garnering his second top three of the night. Tad Kingsbury and Jason Horniak rounded out the top five.
The WYKR Sprint Cars of New England returned for another exciting event. Floyd Billington took the lead early and held off a determined Johnny “The Jet” Scarborough until well after the halfway point of the caution free event before Scarborough pounced on a slight opening low and took the lead. At The Checkers it was Johnny “The Jet” Scarborough taking the win in his first appearance at the track in a few years. Floyd Billington was a strong second with Chris Donnelly third. Will Hull and Rick Stone completed the top five.
In C.A. Miller Limited Late Model action Mike Santaw led the first lap before Ryan Christian made a 3-wide move off turn four to take the lead and run to the victory in yet another caution free event. Mike Santaw was second with John Neddo third, Tyler Tremblay was fourth and Nicolas Longley fifth.
The Peanuts Auto Four Cylinder Feature went nearly caution free with only a single yellow that occurred with one lap remaining. Bobby Bell led start to finish to finally shake the bad luck that has plagued him all season to take the win. Owen Carbee was second with Zachary Audet third. Jason Porter and Chris LaForest completed the top five.
The evening finished with a 75 lap event for the Mike Estrada State Farm Insurance Enduro division. It was an entertaining event that saw Chris LaForest and Paul Hodge swap the lead numerous times with Hodge taking the win by only a fender over LaForest with Doug Bandy Third.
