R&M Automotive Memorial Day press 5/28/16

Harrington finally gets the monkey off his back winning in the DIRTcar Wells River Chevrolet Sportsman Coupes after a two year drought.

BRADFORD, VT – The Bear Ridge Speedway Memorial Day remembrance of lost friends recognizes those who have protected our rights to be fortunate enough to choose to race at the Ridge. The Woodsville American Legion Post presented the colors before the modified main event. We thank Walt Dellinger for helping make this happen once again. We also want to thank our fans for helping us collect almost three hundred pounds of food for the local Vermont Food Bank in Bradford last week.
Well he did it again, making it his fourth win in the Sabil & Sons DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds. Adam Pierson, E Corinth VT followed Kevin Chaffee through the field as first Steve Flint led the race and then Gary Siemons. On lap 28 Siemons would lose the lead to Terry Williams who would only be able to hold on for three laps before Pierson on a restart would get the jump to take the lead putting Williams to second and Chaffee in third. Chaffee and Siemons were able to get by Williams to make it to victory lane with Pierson, making it Chaffee’s second bridesmaid trip and Siemons second trip of the year to victory lane. James Fadden crossed home in fourth and Williams came home in fifth.
We are all very happy to report that Arnie Stygles is home recovering after last week’s incident, and was even at the track to see Tyler Stygles compete in the modified event.
It has been a long long time since we have seen this face on top of the mountain when the checkers waived over the Wells River Chevrolet Sportsman Coupes, and it was a very very happy victory lane when he finally made it back. The last win recorded for this former track champion and Sportsman award winner was on May 24, 2014 literally two years ago to the day. The trail has been long and very bumpy but his persistence prevailed and the win didn’t come to him any easier than the weeks passing by to get there. Josh Harrington battled it out with Matt Ellsworth for every lap of their 30 lap main event switching the lead four times, and it looked as though Ellsworth was going to have what he need to defy Harrington for one more event. Ellsworth had the point on lap twenty three and beat Harrington to the line for every lap that remained except the last one. Harrington jumped when Ellsworth gave him an inch coming out of turn four to take the lead and cross the line just inches ahead of Ellsworth. Bob Shepard came home in third with his best showing of the season with Thomas Placey and Mitchell Frost finishing out the top five.
The Laquerre Sports USAC DMA Midgets were off this week and will return next week June 4th.
Tim Martin grabs another win in the Mike Rivers Automotive Limited Late Models over TJ Morse with Wayland Childs coming home in third. Don Reynolds and Derek Stearns completed the top five.
The finish in the Weglarz Property Service Four Cylinder feature was almost a photo finish from last week, except the Durkee grabbing the third place spot this week would be nephew Jesse over Uncle Jim who finished in fourth. Mike Ryan would once again win the event thus giving him back to back wins over Robert Welch with his third victory lane finish of the season. Kevin LaForest completed the top five.
The WYKR Sprint Cars of New England made their first visit to the Ridge with 18 cars taking the green for their main event. Will Hull took the lead on lap three and held off Luke Greenwood to grab the win. Chris Donnelly took the final victor lane spot Steve Hutchinson and Tyler Austin completed the top five.
The first of four 4 Cylinder Enduros hit the track last with twenty three cars and one truck taking the green. As always there is plenty of excitement when these guys and gals hit the track and tonight was no exception. After 75 laps only two cars were still on the lead lap, and it was Matt Boucher grabbing the first win over Frank Putney and Troy Randall Alan Colpas and Matthew Bradley finished out the top five.
Bear Ridge Speedway’s 49th season of stock car racing continues on Saturday, June 4th with the Sabil & Sons DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds, Wells River Chevrolet DIRTcar Sportsman Coupes, Laquerre’s Sports USC DMA Midgets, Mike Rivers Automotive Limited Late Models, and the Weglarz Property Service Four Cylinders. Plus the Granite State Mini Sprints return, all brought to you by Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank. General admission applies $10 for adults (age 18-61), $8 for teens (12-17) and seniors (62+), and $2 for children; Visa and MasterCard are accepted. Racing begins at the famous “6:00-ish” start time.
