BRADFORD, VT – The 2015 Wells River Savings Bank night has been recorded in the record books with four first time winners of the season out of the five main events. To the dismay of two young driver’s anxious for their first win of the season, the old adage of it ain’t over till it’s over proved true this night in the Bond Auto DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds. Starting on the point TC Forward gave up the lead on lap two, to hard charging Josh Currier. Currier held off the return challenges of Forward only relinquishing it once on lap 21. He regained the lead and looked more than poised to claim his first win as he held on until lap 37. Unfortunately from the seventeenth starting position, Jason Gray had been methodically working his way to the front of the pack, with a mere three laps to go he gained the lead and went on to win the forty lap main event his first of the season. Currier held on for second, and the young gun Jordan Fornwalt silently worked his way from mid pack to grab the final victory lane spot. Adam Pierson and Robert Tucker rounded out the top five.
The O’Reilly Auto Parts Granite State Minis Sprints were on the docket again for their 3rd appearance of the season. In the 500cc your top three were Richard Crooker, Tim Beard, and Troy Boissoneau, with Tony Shaw and Nathan Patrick rounding out the top five. In the 500cc it was Matt Hoyt for the win with Bob Griffin and Brent Warren accompanying him in victory lane. Fourth and fifth went to Kyle Belliveau and Tanner Siemons.
It was all about the money on the Wells River Savings Bank night with $350.00 up for grabs for the Brass Ring Challenge. The Challenge sponsored by MGE Enterprises is simple DIRTcar Sportsman Coupes. Simply run your race green to checkers and the winner collects an extra $50.00. if the race is not caution free the pot rolls over to the next week and keeps growing until the competition see just the three flags for the night, Green, White, and Checkers. The deuces wild worked their way from sixth and seventh the 2 of Tim Hodge grabbing the lead from Teddy Salomaa on lap six. Salomaa slipped back out of any victory lane position. Hodge stayed on point fighting of the hard fought challenges of the double deuce Thomas Placey. Hodge’s crew and fans held their breath for a brief moment when Placey got by Hodge with one to go. Hodge was not to be denied this night he edged past Placey to cross the line first, his first win of the season and claim an extra cool $350.00. The pot falls back to $50.00 next week. Earl Maxham grabbed the final victory lane spot. Jonathan Covey and Melvin Pierson completed the top five.
The USAC DMA Midgets will be back for action next week June 27th on Bond Auto Sportsman night.
In the Crazy Ed’s Limited Late Models Matt Lashua’s misfortune, gave fortune to another as Eric Lang was finally able to get the monkey off his back and grab the win. Lashua finished a disappointing sixth when the checks waved. Joining Lang in victory lane were James Fadden and Tim Martin. David Stearns and Bobbly Bell finished the top five.
The Weglarz Property Service/F.M.S. Auto Parts Four Cylinders started and ended the night with two features. First their makeup event from May 30th on Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank Night. At the end of the 20 lap event Richard Potwin grabbed his first win of the season with Rookie Justin Severance grabbing second and Matt Boucher claiming third. The last event of the Wells River Savings Bank sponsored night saw Matt Boucher going from the third place podium spot to the first place spot as he grabbed the win over Mike Ryan with Charlie Lakin coming home in third. Justin Severance finished fourth with Jesse Smith last week’s feature winner coming home in fifth.
The first of three 4/6 Cylinder Enduros closed the night with 75 laps of action for the competition. A late race flat and then out of fuel took the leader of all but five laps out of winning contention. Survival of the fittest gave Joseph Sherwood the win over Kevin LaForest holding on for second and Amber Brady came home third. Jim Davis and Chris LaForest completed the top five.
Bear Ridge Speedway’s 48th season of stock car racing continues on Saturday, June 27th with Modified Madness and over $6000.00 in purse money, sponsored by Bond Auto Parts with a full card of racing including the USAC DMA Midgets. Regular admission pricing applies for the 99Rock Weekly Racing Series at $10 for adults (age 18-61), $8 for teens (12-17) and seniors (62+), and $2 for children; Visa and MasterCard are accepted. Racing begins at the famous “6:00-ish” start time.
