Wayne Stearns Nabs his First Win of the Year in the DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds

For Immediate Release BRS-060218-1

The evening started with the presentation of the Car Show Winners from opening night. With lots of gorgeous machinery on display it was tough to pick the winners. Wayne Stearns, Richie Simmons and Ricky Sanville were the top three in the Sportsman Modifieds with Tad Kingsbury, Brian Chaffee and Bob Kilburn the top three in the Sportsman Coupes. The USAC Dirt Midgets saw Mike Chaffee, Brandon Emerson and Will Hull the top three with Ryan Christian, Hunter Nutter and George Osgood picking up the laurels in the Limited Late Models. Best of the Four Cylinders were Santana Merritt, Owen Carbee and Don Reynolds.
The Sabil & Sons DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds found Wayne Stearns and Ricky Sanville fire from the front row with Stearns garnering the advantage. Wayne Stearns held the lead through multiple cautions and multiple restarts, each time fending off the challenges from the ever changing second spot. Richie Simmons finally settled into second after starting ninth on the grid with fourteenth starter Kevin Chaffee also making a run towards the front. Chaffee got past Simmons late in the race and applied intense pressure to Wayne Stearns but Stearns was up to the task and held on for his first win of the year. Kevin Chaffee would claim second with Richie Simmons third. Robert Tucker and DJ Robinson would complete the top five.
The Wells River Chevrolet DIRTcar Sportsman Coupes provided non-stop action as the Feature went caution free. At the drop of the green veteran Jason Horniak bolted into the lead with Bob Kilburn second. As the fast paced event unfolded Horniak build a rather large lead on Kilburn while he held a big advantage on third where an entertaining battle ensued between multiple drivers before Gene Pierson Jr finally claimed the spot and started to reel in Bob Kilburn but ran out of time, arriving on Kilburn’s bumper as the white flag flew. At the finish it was a dominating win for Jason Horniak with Bob Kilburn finishing a career best second and Gene Pierson Jr third. Todd Hayward and Jason Colbeth rounded out the top five.
The Laquerre’s Sports USAC DMA Midgets hit the track fifteen strong this week with Manny Dias and Alex Rose comprising the front row. When the green flew Manny Dias out dragged Rose into turn one to claim the lead. Dias led for the first nine circuits of the caution free event with Will Hull sliding into the lead as the field completed ten laps. Joe Krawiec then applied pressure to Dias, eventually claiming the second spot and started to close on leader Hull but the needed caution never occurred. At the checkers it was Will Hull taking the win with Joe Krawiec second, Manny Dias third, Seth Carlson fourth and opening day winner Jason Goff fifth.
Ryan Christian continued his dominance in the C.A. Miller Limited Late Models winning his third consecutive Feature. Kelly Miller led the first lap with Hunter Nutter taking the top spot on lap two, holding it until Christian went flying by on the high side with six laps complete. From there it was all Ryan Christian as he rolled to the win. John Neddo finished second with Hunter Nutter holding on to third. George Osgood and Walt Hammond rounded out the top five.
A new face made its way in to victory lane in the Weglarz Property Service Four Cylinders. Rodney Davis flew to the lead from his fourth starting spot when the race commenced, holding the lead through the first four cautions. Unfortunately for Davis he was the fifth caution as he suffered a flat right front tire entering turn three. This handed the lead to Jason Porter, who started twelfth on the field. Porter led the next three laps to claim his first win of the season. Points leader Danny Doyle crossed the line second with Kevin Harran third, Bobby Bell fourth and rookie Owen Carbee fifth.
