Currier adds his name to the short list of wins in Sabil & Sons DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds

Ellsworth finally gets the win in the Wells River Chevrolet DIRTcar Sportsman Coupes.

For Immediate Release BRS-0061816-1

BRADFORD, VT – With a full moon in the sky one man’s misfortune becomes another’s fortune in the Sabil & Sons DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds, while last year’s champ in the Wells River Chevrolet Sportsman Coupes continues to struggle, seemingly unable to get that proverbial monkey off his back. Seems if it weren’t for bad luck several drivers had no luck at all on Jiffy Mart of Bradford night at the Ridge.

Trevor Rocke got the jump on the start in the Sabil & Sons DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds and looked strong for the first handful of laps until caution waived on lap eight. The restart saw DJ Robinson getting the jump over Rocke who had worked his way up a position a lap to that point. Robinson looked unstoppable for the next third of the event until lap twenty six when suddenly Josh Currier was there and by him. Unfortunately for Robinson it was more than the lead he lost, as suddenly he was seen pulling off the back stretch into the infield coming out of turn two apparently with no power. Robinson was unable to get his machine and caution would wave as he got the long ride on the hook back to the pits his night over. Currier not one to look a gift horse in the mouth couldn’t believe his sudden fortune as he found himself on point for the Delaware restart. Currier knew he would have his work cut out for him as he looked up to the Sabil & Sons Score Board and lap counter and saw the last two numbers any driver wants to see behind them. Yes it was Adam Pierson and Kevin Chaffee having come from the back of the pack knocking on Currier’s door along with Rookie James Fadden for the restart. Currier stood on the gas pedal and was able to keep the car on the bottom of the track forcing Pierson and Chaffee to have to work the outside if they wanted to get by him. As the laps for Currier slowing ticked off he looked poised to grabbing his first win when suddenly with one to go caution would wave one more time. All thought for sure this was it for Currier with the green white checkers finish. But Currier was not about to be intimidated by either Pierson or Chaffee, and was able to hold them both off to claim his first win of the season and to become the fifth different winner in the Sabil & Sons DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds. Adam Pierson came home second with Kevin Chaffee taking third. Rookie James Fadden and veteran Gary Siemons completed the top five.

The full moon was shining its bad mojo down on the Wells River Chevrolet Sportsman Coupes making it difficult to get their first lap in the record books in both the heat races and the feature. Buster Kathan and Stan Otterman set the paces for the field only to make contact in their heat race and see the caution wave yet again on the first lap of the feature for spins in the back of the pack. The restart gave Kathan the point ffor the next few laps until mighty Matt Ellsworth got by him on lap seven. Ellsworth was able to pull away from the field only to see his substantial lead go up in smoke several times for the yellow flag. The restarts gave others the opportunity to try to dethrone him but none would have what was needed to take away the win Ellsworth was so anxious to get. On the final restart Tim Hodge and Brian Chaffee battle each other for position giving Ellsworth the breathing room he needed to cross the line first. Hodge held of Chaffee for second with Jason Colbeth and Jason Horniac coming home fourth and fifth.

The Laquerre Sports USAC DMA Midgets were off this week were back in town for the biweekly visit with some returning facing from last year. With the return of Gallant and Duhaime to name but a few the field continues to grow, offering for some great racing excitement. Tonight the excitement would be for one of the regulars who has struggled of late in the midgets. Kevin Chaffee driving the #2 Skip Matczak machine has had a bit of bad luck and finally looked to be able to capitalize on his starting position. Unfortunately in racing it aint over till it’s over, and in this event it was about one quarter of lap longer than Chaffee wanted. Chaffee dominated the event getting the jump on the start and leading every lap in the green to checkers event except the one that counted most. With less than a quarter lap to go having worked his way from the back of the pack Adam Pierson was once again there when it counted. Pierson was able to get by Chaffee going into turn four to steal the win. Chaffee held on for second with Josh Sunn the other Manafort stable machine taking third. Dean Christensen and Jeff Champagne completed the top five. The Laquerre Sports USAC DMA Midgets will return for racing action on July 2nd.

In the Mike Rivers Automotive Limited Late Models it was all Tim Martin who dusted the field to take home his fifth win of the season. Joining him in victory lane were JP Vallencourt and Bryan King in the Derrick Stearns #2. TJ Morse and Wayland Childs completed the top five.

The Durkee’s in look-alike cars in the Weglarz Property Service Four Cylinder grab back to back wins with uncle Jim winning the overall madness event last week and nephew Jesse coming back to grab the win this week his second of the season, making him the second multi feature winner in the division. Mike Ryan your other multi feature winner was the one to challenge Durkee but unfortunately would have to settle for second. Jonathan Baker joined the two in victory lane grabbing the third place spot with Keven LaForest takin forth and Jim Durkee fifth.
