Bear Ridge Speedway 2008 Sportsman Modifieds
BODIES
ë Must be a least as wide as the frame. Fiberglass roofs allowed. Side window openings must be left open. Tech must approve all bodies.
ë At least the top part of the hood is compulsory and must cover the full top of the radiator; over flow pipes must run to the bottom of radiator and below engine and must be clipped in place or optional will have over-flow tanks with an efficient and safe fastener.
ë Side rails are mandatory. Side rails not to exceed two (2) inches wider than tires and must be rounded back to frame. Must be approved by tech man.
ë Front bumpers will be outward not more than 10″ (ten) from the tires and will have no upward slant. Front crash bar will not be over (6) six inches wider than the frame on either side.
ë Rear bumpers shall not exceed width of rear wheels. Bottom of rear and front bumpers shall have 6″ (6) height all the length and be made of steel tubing.
ë There will be a complete firewall between the engine and the driver.
ë A complete metal firewall from side to side and floor to bottom of rear window between fuel tank and driver.
CHASSIS
ë All cars must be braced with no less than four (4) upright pieces from the frame, cross-braced at the top and braced back to the frame as nearly over the driver as possible. All square corners to be gusseted. Bracing to be 1 ¾ ″ O.D., on any car built after 2002 (1 ½″ may be used if professionally built) with .090-thickness wall – with hole drilled so officials can check it.
ë ENGINES
ë Engine Specifications
ë Option #1
ë GM CRATE ENGINE part # 88958602 (Note this is the same engine the D.I.R.T. sportsmen are using). Engine must remain OEM factory stock and seals in place.
FUEL/CARBURETOR
ë Regular Unleaded (94 Octane maximum) fuel only.
ë No additives. Fuel will be spot checked.
ë Crate engine carburetor allowed Holley Part # 80541-1 or 80541-2.
ë The use of Holley part # 4777 D.I.R.T. Legal Sportsman Crate Engine Carburetor is allowed. You are only allowed to change the power valve, accelerator pump cams, accelerator pump nozzles, and the jetting and the float levels. No other modifications allowed. Maximum 1" thick carburetor spacer plate with 3/16" maximum thickness intake gasket allowed. No Super Suckers! OEM Factory stock valve springs only. Valve springs will be spot checked.
Option #2
ë OEM GM ENGINE block up to .060 allowed for engine clean-up.
ë No bow-tie or aftermarket engine blocks allowed.
ë No Ford or Chrysler engines allowed.
ë Must have ¾" hole plug for inspection purposes.
ë FUEL/CARBURETOR
ë Regular Unleaded (94 Octane maximum) fuel only.
o No additives. Fuel will be spot checked.
ë Holley two barrel model 4412 only carb allowed with option #2 non-spec engines. Venturi size of 1 3/8" and a maximum throttle bore of 11/16". No polishing anywhere air flows. Choke horn cannot be removed. Venturi area must not be altered in any way. Stock butterflies only. Idle holes may be drilled out to .125. Throttle shaft must remain stock and may not be thinned in any way. Must have two return springs on carburetors.
OIL COOLERS
ë Oil coolers are allowed (no dry sump systems allowed). Large oil pan is allowed. No high dollar oil coolers allowed.
CRANKSHAFT:
ë Any steel or cast iron crankshaft is permitted providing it maintains stock stroke as manufactured for the engine block used.
ë Aftermarket OEM replacement crankshafts with holes drilled through crankpins are permitted providing they maintain stock appearance and specs.
ë No lightweight cranks are permitted.
ë The minimum rod and main journal sizes must be Chevy, Ford, or Chrysler specs only less factory undersize.
ë Knife-edging, narrowing, or cutting down the diameter of the crankshaft counter weights is not permitted.
ë No polishing of the crank is permitted.
CAMSHAFTS/PISTONS/RODS
ë Any flat tappet cam with solid lifters. NO ROLLER CAMS.
ë 500 Cam Lift Maximum at the valvue
ë Any flat top pistons, pistons cannot come above deck.
ë Stock production 5.7" rods, no 6" rods. Solid steel aftermarket rods allowed.
ë No “lightweight” rods.
ë NO titanium, aluminum, polished or billet rods allowed.
ë NO HIGH DOLLAR RODS!!
CYLINDER HEADS
ë Stock OEM GM cast iron heads only. Stock OEM bow-tie heads allowed. No porting polishing or matching of heads allowed.
ë All cylinder heads must be OEM factory stock only. Only alterations allowed will be for regular valve jobs only. It is allowed to plane cylinder heads to reface surface.
ë Maximum intake valve size of 2.02 and exhaust valve size of 1.60. No pro flow or narrowed valve stems, only stock OEM valve stem sizes.
ë Angle plug heads allowed. Screw in studs allowed 3/8" or 7/16" in size.
ë The use of guide plates is allowed.
ë Roller rockers are allowed. Stock OEM ratio only. All rockers must be independent stud mount. No blending in ports or bowl allowed. No titanium valve or valve train parts. No stud girdles allowed.
IGNITION SYSTEMS
ë Stock HEI ignition only. Any coil or module as long as stock cap and coil covers are used. No dual point ignition.
INTAKE MANIFOLDS/SPACER PLATES
ë Any Stock GM cast iron 2 barrel intake manifold
ë Intake must remain OEM factory stock. No alterations of any kind allowed. Use of up to 1" thick spacer plate is allowed.
ë Aluminum intake RPM performer allowed.
NO SUPER SUCKERS ALLOWED.
Other Specifications
ë TRANSMISSIONS
ë Bert transmissions allowed or any 3 speed with quartermaster clutch.
ë Car must be able to shift gears while running into both forward and reverse.
EXHAUST HEADERS AND MUFFLERS
ë Muffler and exhaust systems are required.
ë Headers must be regular “Budget” low dollar type headers. Primary pipes must remain 1 5/8" diameter from flange to collector. Maximum header flange or adapter flange thickness is 3/8". No coated ceramic or exotic type headers allowed. The use of D.I.R.T approved Schonefield part # 1122BCM is recommended.
ë All cars must meet 95 decible noise reading. Reading shall be taken at speedway property line.
STARTERS
ë All cars must have working starters and batteries that are fully charged so as that car starts on it’s own power.
ë Dry cell batteries allowed and strongly suggested for driver safety.
ë Cars that spin out and cannot start under their own power will receive one push start per race night. The second time that a car delays the racing program it will be black flagged for the rest of the night.
CHASSIS
ë THERE IS NO AGE RESTRICTION ON CHASSIS FOR BUDGET SPORTSMAN.
ë No on board adjustable devices allowed, only brake bias adjusters allowed.
ë No in cab mechanical adjustments may be made to any suspension parts
ë Exception – Brake bias and Pan hard bar.
SHOCKS
ë Claimer rule: Any shock may be bought for $200.00. All shock claims will be made in writing. Shock claiming procedure will be the same as a mechanical protest. BRS management will have the right to claim shocks. BRS also reserves the right to have claimed shocks removed at any time during the race meet if BRS management feels the spirit of the rules has been violated.
IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A MUFFLER, YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO RACE.
FUEL CELLS
ë Must be in the rear compartment behind the driver. No fuel cell under the hood or in the engine compartment
FRAMES
ë Will be 1932 and up. Bodies, motors and frames are interchangeable. Two by four (2X4) square tube frames allowed. Offset measured from frame to inside bead edge of wheel or 4″ max.
MISC.
ë No four (4)-wheel drive or front wheel drives allowed.
ë Gas line must run under floorboard and be clipped to frame or in enclosed tubing.
ë Any front axle may be used.
ë Any type radiators or cooling system may be used. No auxiliary cooling tanks or radiators in driver’s compartment.
ë Full floating rear-ends and locked rear-ends will be allowed. Quick change rear-ends will be allowed.
ë Adjustable pan hard bar allowed
TIRES
ë Track Tire Only.
ë All cars will run Goodyear tires on all four wheels.
ë Tires must be purchased from Bear Ridge Speedway.
ë Tires may be sipped or grooved for better traction.
Fuel
ë Pump gas only no higher than 94 octane
TRANSMISSION
ë Any style transmission other than quick-change allowed.
WEIGHT
ë Crate Motor: Minimum 2400 lbs at any time with driver.
ë Option #2: 2500 lbs at any time with driver.
ë Weight can be adjusted if needed per management at anytime.
ë Torque arm must be chained
ë Must have cover over drive shaft. (To be approved by tech)
ë No wings or sail panels allowed.
WHEELS
ë Steel or aluminum wheels allowed.
ë NO CARBON FIBER ALLOWED.

INTERPRETATION OF RULES BY AN OFFICIAL IS FINAL. THE MANAGEMENT RESERVES THE RIGHT TO CHANGE ANY RULE OR RULES IF THEY FEEL IT IS NECESSARY, AND REFUSE ANY PROTEST IF THEY FEEL IT IS UNNECESSARY AND BEING USED FOR HARASSING REASONS. ALL FINES AND/OR SUSPENSIONS WILL BE IN EFFECT AT ALL BEAR RIDGE SPEEDWAY EVENTS.
THE INTERPRETATION AND INVOKING OF THE RULES PUBLISHED HERIN SHALL BE DETERMINED BY BEAR RIDGE SPEEDWAY OFFICIALS ONLY IN THEIR PROFESSIONAL DISCRETION.
