2008 General Rules
The rules and/or regulations set forth herein are designed to provide for the orderly conduct of racing events and to establish minimum acceptable requirements for said events. These rules shall govern the condition of all events, and by participating in these events, all participants are deemed to have complied with these rules.
They are intended as a guide for the conduct of the sport and are in no way a guarantee against injury or death to a participant, spectator or official.
The race director shall be empowered to permit minor deviation from any of the specifications herein or impose any further restrictions that in his/her opinion does not alter the minimum acceptable requirements.
Any interpretation or deviation of these rules is left to the discretion of the officials. Their decision is final.

GENERAL
O Driver must have valid 2008 BRS Car owner/driver License to be eligible for competition trophy and pay. (IMCA Mods will be required to hold 2008 IMCA license.)
O Pit license cost will be a $50.00 membership fee before March 1st, $75.00 after March 1st.
O CAR NUMBERS ARE RESERVED BY RECIEPT OF LICENSE/MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION AND PAYMENT. EFFECTIVE 2008 TO GUARANTY RECEIPT OF YOUR CAR NUMBER FROM PRIOR YEAR YOU MUST SUBMIT LICENSE/MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION AND PAYMENT BY MARCH 1ST. AFTER MARCH 1ST ALL NUMBERS WILL BE ISSUED ON A FIRST COME FIRST SERVE BASIS
O DRIVER AND/OR OWNER MUST PURCHASE A TICKET AND BE PRESENT AT ANNUAL AWARDS BANQUET TO RECEIVE ANY POINT FUND MONEYS, TROPHIES, AND CONTINGENCY ITEMS.
O Top three must remain at the facility in fire suit with car (car must be unloaded and available for victory lane) for pictures until they are released to receive weekly purse and trophy.
O ALL DRIVERS must have a CURRENT VALID Driver’s license, unless age 14 to 16 or have never held one before. License may be checked at any time.
O Per Vermont Regulation must be 14 years of age to enter pits.
O Anyone between the ages of 14 & 18 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
O NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES ALLOWED IN THE PIT AREA AT ANY TIME. Suspension–2 weeks. ANY PERSON (i.e. driver, pit crew, spectator etc.,) MAY BE CHECKED AT ANY TIME FOR ALCOHOL. (i.e. breathalyzer.)
O NO EXCESS SPEED IN PIT OR INFIELD. PENALTY: SUSPENSION FOR THE REST OF THE MEET.
O One tow vehicle per car allowed in pit at the discretion of pit steward. ENFORCED.
O All loaded cars must remain in their own pit area until completion of the feature event or completely leave the premises.
O ONE PERSON MUST REMAIN WITH THE CAR AT ALL TIMES.
O NO working on race cars on the track. All repairs are to be done in pits only.
O ANY DRIVER ARGUING WITH AN OFFICIAL AT THE TRACK WILL BE BLACK FLAGGED.
O Owner and/or driver of competion vehicle is responsible for behavior of driver and crew. Any individual in the pits that causes fighting in the pit area will be fined $100.00 and a one-week suspension. Second offense will be suspension for the rest of the season.
O Owners and drivers will be required to sign an insurance release.
O A driver may change classes, but must remain in that class for the remainder of the season.
O No driver in any class may move back into the Fast Four or Ridge Runner Hornet Divisions in the racing season. OFFICIALS DECISION.
O A driver will be allowed to compete in only ONE (1) class at Bear Ridge Speedway.
O NO MIRRORS IN ANY CLASS.
O No Two-Way Radios Allowed In Any Class
O ONE WAY SCANNERS will be mandatory in all classes in 2008
o Tuned to track frequency only
O SAFETY
O Snell or DOT approved safety helmet is mandatory.
O Fire suits are mandatory with at least a SFI 3-2A/1 rating.
O Belts must be a quick release 5-point safety belt with a 3” minimum belt width & harness, dated not over four (4) years old.
O NO riders allowed at any time.
O All cars must have fire extinguishers, 2.5 lb. minimum in a quick clip release mount within reach of driver while strapped in.
O All cars must have a 1/8″ steel plate under their seat for protection.
O All cars must have high back aluminum racing seat, no short seats or fiberglass seats.
O All seats must be bolted in with six 3/8″ bolts and 1″ diameter washers four (4) in the bottom and two (2) in the back.
O Window nets mandatory on all division except the Sportsman Coupes & Sportsman Modifieds. The net must be secured to the roll cage with two (2) steel rods or bars, with the top being of quick release design & must fall down when opened. All cars must have an arrow on roof, lined up with latch for window net. Arrow must be at least 3″ tall and a contrasting color from rest of car. Any design allowed as long as it meets tech approval.
O Roll cage must be made of 1½″ x .090 min. tubing. Must have a full racing type roll cage. Roll cage must be mounted or braced to frame rail. There must be four (4) bars in driver’s door with three (3) bars in right door. There must be diagonal bracing in the door bars. All stress points must be gusseted. No threaded pipe, pipe fittings, lap weld pipe, magnesium or aluminum. NO channel or angel iron on the construction of roll cage. Front and rear bracing OK
O Doors, hoods, and trunks may be gutted.
O Roll bars within drivers reach must be padded with foam rubber
O All cages will be approved by Bear Ridge Speedway.
O Steering box must be padded as well as hoses to steering box.
O Fuel line must have a shut off that is marked “ON” and “OFF” within reach of the driver.
O All fuel lines in cockpit must be in an approved casing unless it is braided steel hose or racing push lock hose.
O Battery must have a disconnect switch and be mounted as close to battery as possible.
o Must be clearly marked “ON” and “OFF”.
o Must be within reach of driver.
O Cars must have foam filled fuel cells and must be mounted in a secure way.
O No plastic fuel filters.
O Driver must be able to reach all starters, kill switches, and other controls while seat belts are hitched.
O Center of steering wheel must be padded.
O Drive shaft safety loops 1/8″ by 2″ wide required. Must be two (2) not more than 12″ (12) from each u-joint.
O Bell housing must have a scatter shield.
O No pressure type fuel systems allowed. No electric fuel pumps allowed. (4-cyl. exception–must have kill switch.)
O At least two (2) throttle springs required, one facing forward, one backward.
ALL CARS MUST HAVE WORKING BRAKES ON ALL FOUR WHEELS.
O All tow vehicles must have one working (minimum) 5lb fire extinguisher accessible from the rear of the vehicle and clearly visible
O No car will be allowed on the track until the ambulance, first aid, and fire fighting equipment are ready to go
O The first-aid person’s decision shall be final as to whether anyone shall go to the hospital.
o FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH THIS DECISION IS SUSPENSION FOR THREE (3) RACE MEETS.
o A driver must have an official hospital release before being allowed to return to competition.
O ANY INJURY MUST BE REPORTED TO THE PIT STEWARD BEFORE LEAVING THE AREA IN ORDER TO BE COVERED BY INSURANCE.
O HANDICAPING
O Handicap is based on the DRIVER's 3 week average and prior feature wins.
O The starting lineup may be changed at the discretion of the Bear Ridge Speedway officials in any event.
O Driver winning the previous feature event will start in the rear of the qualified cars the first week back in competition after the feature win if qualified. The week before’s winner one position ahead etc. Official’s discretion.
O All drivers must report to head handicapper at the pit tower by 5:30pm or start in rear of qualifier.
O Any car with multiple drivers will be positioned in the lineup in accordance with the handicap system.
O Any driver qualified may disqualify themselves and car before the first consolation only. The driver is then not eligible to drive, but the car can be qualified by someone else.
O No car will receive a change of drivers during any event. Driver can not change cars during any event.
O All new drivers must start in the rear their first three (3) weeks of competition.
O FIVE MINUTES AFTER NOTICE OF ANY EVENT, CARS MUST LINE UP OR WILL START IN THE REAR.
O ALL SCRATCHED CARS MUST BE REPORTED TO THE HANDICAPPER (PIT TOWER) IMMEDIATELY. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY RESULT IN A PENALTY OF ONE (1) MEET SUSPENSION.
TEAR DOWN/INSPECTIONS
O Any car may be torn down at any time if an official thinks it is necessary at no cost to Bear Ridge Speedway.
O Any car refusing a tech inspection or tear down will loose all points accumulated for the season & any money for the night.
O Any owner or driver in the pit wishing to have a car torn down must notify Pit Steward or Tech in writing no later than 10 minutes after completion of the featured race.
o Driver requesting tear down must have competed in same event to be eligible to request tear down.
o Any competitor who institutes a tear down inspection against a fellow competitor must tear down his/her car with the same specifications at no cost.
O Teardown item cost, if not covered in the rulebook will be a fifty ($50.00) fee or Techman’s decision.
o TECHMAN'S DECISION IS FINAL.
o $200.00 deposit required to pull/see the following:
§ Head and intake
§ Piston and rod
§ Flywheel
§ $25.00 charge to see weight.
O All money will be returned to the protester if car found illegal.
O Only the signature may witness the tear down.
O Cars found illegal will forfeit winnings, points, and trophy for the entire meet, if any.
O Track officials will confiscate all illegal parts.
O Car will lose 100 points from total points for first offense. ALL points for second offense.
O Car will start in rear for the remainder of the season. All classes. After first offense.
O One or more cars may be checked for technical inspection at any given time at no cost to management.
LETTERING
O ALL CARS MUST HAVE 18” NUMBERS ON BOTH SIDES AND ROOF OF CAR
O Must be in contrasting colors or he/she will not be scored and will be disqualified until numbers meet above requirements.
O One or two (2) digit numbers only, 3″ wide
NO 3 DIGIT NUMBERS NO METALLIC NUMBERS NO MIRROR TYPE NUMBERS
O Must leave space on right door (upper right side) for division sponsor sticker packs.
O NO profanity or obscenities allowed.
O Management reserves the right to have any inappropriate graphics removed before being allowed to compete.
TIRES/WHEELS
O No tire softening or chemical treatments allowed.
o At anytime an official may request a tire be given to track management.
o If tire is found to be OK, a new tire will be given to you for the tire you gave track management.
o If tire is found to have been dipped, soaked, or to use any components to soften the rubber, car will loose all points for that night, plus 50 off point total, loss of purse money and a $100.00 fine.
O No plastic, composite or carbon fiber wheels allowed.
O DECISION OF RACE OFFICIALS OF INTERPRETATION OF RULES SHALL BE FINAL.
FLAG RULES
O The green flag shall start the race and means the track is clear. On an original green flag all cars must stay in line until past the starter’s stand. On restarts, racing resumes immediately upon display of green flag. Pole man (leader) sets the pace.
O The yellow flag signifies caution and this flag will be given to the first car passing the starter. After the yellow flag is displayed cars must hold position until either the green flag is again displayed or the red flag, which would automatically stop the race.
o Passing under caution will be penalized two (2) positions for each car passed, at the discretion of the officials.
o When the caution flag flies, cars will fall into single file. Passing car-giving way to lead car.
O The red flag and light means danger – stop at once. Any car not stopping will go to the rear.
O The black flag is the disqualifying flag and consultation flag and is to be used when necessary.
O The checkered flag and white flag together mean two (2) laps left till the finish.
O The white flag means one (1) lap left till the finish.
O The black and white checkered flag means the finish of the event.
O Blue and yellow passing flag means cars must pull to the inside
ON RESTARTS, CARS WILL LINE UP ACCORDING TO THEIR POSITIONS ON THE LAST GREEN FLAG LAP. OFFICIAL’S DECISION.
O Restarts will be double file until 5 laps remain then will be single file in all events. FLAGMAN’S DECISION.
O Cars will not be allowed to return to the track in qualifying events.
O Semi-feature and feature only cars will be allowed to return to the track.
O Cars may return to track under green at discretion of Flagman and/or Pit Stewards with a break in traffic.
O All pitted cars must stop on pit road before returning to track or will be black-flagged. FLAGMAN’S DECISION.
O Cars taking out the leader will go to the rear, leader will get position back.
o If leader spins or loses it on own, he/she goes to the rear.
O Cars cutting through infield of track to gain positions will be penalized two (2) positions at end of event. FLAGMAN’S DECISION.
O Any car breaking down will be pushed to the infield immediately. Infield will be cleared after each event at discretion of officials.
O Cars spinning into the infield will wait for a break in traffic and then may return to the track so as to not interfere with traffic. If he/she does so, they will be suspended for the rest of the meet.
O Cars spinning out or involved in an accident will return to the lineup where they can blend into the line of traffic. If all cars go by, they must pull on at the rear.
O If you go to the pits for any reason, you must go to the rear.
O NO DRIVER MAY GET OUT OF ANY UPRIGHT CAR WHILE ON THE TRACK OR IN THE INFIELD & RETURN TO RACING, UNLESS TOLD BY TRACK.
O Any car driving to endanger others or spinning unnecessarily will be BLACK-FLAGGED. FLAGMAN’S DECISION.
O Any car intentionally causing a yellow flag will automatically go one lap down. FLAGMAN’S DECISION.
O THREE (3) SPINOUTS CAUSING A CAUTION FLAG WILL RESULT IN CAR AND DRIVER BEING BLACK-FLAGGED.
O Anyone with a flat tire is to pit or pull to the infield immediately or they will be disqualified for the rest of meet. FLAGMAN’S DECISION.
o If left front tire, only, is flat and not causing trouble, car may continue to race until yellow. FLAGMAN’S DECISION.
O All cars must take the original green flag in the qualifier or consolation race to be eligible to be an alternate in the feature.
O A meet (race night) will be considered complete after the first four (4) events are completed.
O If no consolation event is used in a division, a driver may get out of his car and return with another car if his car is wrecked or is beyond repair for any reason. This may be used one (1) time during the season. Must tell Pit Steward before feature lineup.
EXHAUST
MUFFLERS MANDATORY IN ALL DIVISONS!
O IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A MUFFLER, YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO RACE.
IF IT DOESN’T SAY IT, YOU CAN’T DO IT!!
POINT SYSTEM:
O Number of cars qualified 6. If enough cars a consolation event will be held. Cars running in the consolation event will receive one (1) point and will be running for a starting position. Consolation cars will start in the feature after the qualified cars, in the order they finished the consolation event. Feature winner from the previous week will start behind qualified cars unless he/she has to qualify in a consolation event. Any prior feature winner will start no higher than 5th in the feature.

INTERPRETATION OF RULES BY AN OFFICIAL IS FINAL. THE MANAGEMENT RESERVES THE RIGHT TO CHANGE ANY RULE OR RULES IF THEY FEEL IT IS NECESSARY, AND REFUSE ANY PROTEST IF THEY FEEL IT IS UNNECESSARY AND BEING USED FOR HARASSING REASONS. ALL FINES AND/OR SUSPENSIONS WILL BE IN EFFECT AT ALL BEAR RIDGE SPEEDWAY EVENTS.
THE INTERPRETATION AND INVOKING OF THE RULES PUBLISHED HERIN SHALL BE DETERMINED BY BEAR RIDGE SPEEDWAY OFFICIALS ONLY IN THEIR PROFESSIONAL DISCRETION.
